Building a Redfish King
Kayak was returned to my shop Oct 26 after it was glassed.
Now for stripping the deck.

Since Oct 26, I have been slowly working on stripping the deck - waiting for temperatures above 50F for the glue to set properly. Nov 10-11 we finally had good temps and I think I will complete the stripping Nov 11.

One day of stripping: beginning Nov 10 above and end of Nov 10. Saturday was a great day!

A good day of stripping!
All of the deck strips met the sheer at
an angle, so this Rigid spindle sander
with a 4X24 belt was invaluable to
make the compound bevel.
Stripping complete Nov 11!
The cockpit recess has been cut
and lined with a 1/16" basswood
strip. Mahogany strips will fill the
recess - 108 of them I
estimated...glued one at a time.
I finally decided upon a bow pattern and cut
three pieces from 1/16" thick basswood. I taped
the pattern to the deck, then used a knife to
score the pattern edge on the deck, making
several passes, each pass increasing the depth
of cut. I then used a small router and cut a
recess just shy of the pattern depth and carefully
removed the edge. The patterns were glued
with epoxy, taped, then sanded smooth for a
nice tight fit.
Rear inlay routed and ready to glue. I
reduced the front pattern by 78% for
the rear inlay. Yes the white
foreground is snow! This morning
was 17F so I think my days of working
in the carport are over until spring.
Deck was fiberglassed on Dec 2. I coated the
hull glassed with three additional layers of
epoxy all in one day!
Coaming placed inside cockpit cutout.
Hatch rims glued in.
Hull glassed inside and spread - waiting
for deck completion.
