Trip Leaders:
A botanist by training,
Benham has led Wesleyan
trips to Baja Mexico, the
Buffalo River in Arkansas, the
BWCAW and to Nebraska's
Niobrara River.  Benham has
taken 8 trips to the Boundary
Waters Canoe Area
Wilderness including one
5-day solo trip.  He is certified
in Wilderness First Aid.

Dale also makes wooden
canoes and kayaks and has  
finished his fourth boat - his
personal sea kayak -

Jackie Canterbury,
biology professor
Dale Benham,
biology professor
Canterbury is a native of the
Pacific Northwest and spent
many years in Alaska,
working at Misty Fiords
National Monument
Wilderness.  She is an
ardent conservationist,
ornithologist, camper and
lover of all things wild.

Jackie has traveled in many
remote areas including
Alaska, Panama and Belize.
Jerald Bricker,
biology professor
Bricker is an avid backpacker and
sleeper outside.  His trips have
taken him, his friends and his
students from the tropical forests
of Belize, to the depths of the
coral reefs of Honduras, down
the rivers of Alaska, to the peaks
of the western rockies, and into
the BWCAW.

His finest qualities include
singing while paddling and never
tiring of freeze dried camping fare.
Megan is the student teaching assistant for
the course and loves to be in the wild. Last
year, she was a student co-leader for the
Wilderness trip is anxious to go again.  She
has also spent time studying in the Belize rain
forest.

Her love for the wilderness is only topped by
the warmth of a hot shower after a long
excursion.

Sandra Mathews,
history professor
Mathews has spent her
academic life studying
New Mexico,  the
borderlands, Western
women and American
Indian history.  

Her interest in the
environment extends well
beyond the classroom.  
She is a  camper and
boater (canoe, sailing,
and kayak) and enjoys
quality time on rivers and
lakes.  Sandra is also
certified in Wilderness
First Aid.
